Where do Birds go!

A few weeks ago a little bird made a nest in one of my hanging baskets, and every day I watched it come and go.  When the nest was finished and the bird wasn't there, I took it down and looked inside, there inside was one tiny egg. I watched the bird every day until one day it didn't come, I wondered after a week when it didn't return just what happened to it. I guess I'll never know.

That is so sad... Something must have happened to the mother, leaving the egg all alone... to die...
things happen in nature that we never really know about.
You have a precious little nest there, even with the egg that will always stay an egg.
Beautiful photos.
I pray that you are doing very well.
Blessings to you, Debbie

Dear Sylvia,
What a lovely little nest. I wonder what happened to that little mother. So sad when that happens. We have a little wren that makes a nest on our propane tank every spring. All during the spring we hear the babies cheeping and then we watch as their mommy teaches them to fly. It is such a precious thing to see.
Loved your post and the photos are wonderful.

Blessings, Valerie

We had a wren do the same thing, although apparently at least one of the eggs did hatch, but they left one. Apparently they know that some eggs just aren't able to hatch for whatever reason. I guess you could call it a birdie miscarriage. So sad. But nature has a way of taking care of its own. They are so interesting to watch.

seems the mama bird, was killed by a preditor... i can't see a mama bird, simply abandoning her egg...

but then, the lady above's comment, has a reason, i never heard of...

never know, that's so true...

Sad, isn't it? Birds will abandon a nest for various reasons - predators or sometimes they just aren't happy with it or the location.
