Slaw Recipe

Have you ever had a recipe that you loved but somehow you hadn't made it in months or years, and you wonder why?
That happened to me last weekend. We were having a picnic at a local lake and I said I would bring the slaw. Well the temperature was in the 90's and I thought mayonnaise might not be a good idea. Then I remembered I had a recipe for Marinated Cole Slaw. Have you ever tried it?  It is really good. Here's the recipe.

1 large head cabbage, graded thin slices

2 med. onions, cut small (optional)

1 large bell pepper, cut small pieces

1 finely chopped carrot

mix together and sprinkle 3/4 cup sugar over mixture and let stand.

Bring to boil for 5 minutes, 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 1 Teaspoon salt, 1 Tablespoon sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoon mustard seed, 1/2 cup veg. oil.  Pour over cabbage while still hot, stir let stand for 24 hours in refrigerator.  Serve and enjoy.

My girls had forgotten that they liked it.  I'll be making it again soon to take to my sisters for our family get together on Sept.6th. Maybe even more now that I have remembered that I love it!

Have a Blessed Day!
Sylvia

Absolutely! A ton of favourite recipes that somehow don't come to mind when I want to make something that is tried and true.
I switched to a similar slaw long ago and then decided to cut out the sugar so just combine the oil, vinegar and spices to toss.

What a great idea, for avoiding mayo-worry!

I'm like that! I worry about anything with mayo in it, being out of the refrigerator, for ..... For longer than it takes, to serve people!!!! LOL. I'm the one, who grabs said dish, and pops it back in the frig!

Can always go get some more!!!!

I'm not a great slaw lover, but this recipe looks yummy. My hubby LOVES it. Maybe I should make it for him and surprise him! Thanks for the recipe.

Hi Sylvia,

Your coleslaw looks delicious! I have never tried marinated coleslaw, but it is a great idea for when the temps are very high. Sounds like it was a big winner! Have a great weekend.

This sounds like a great summer, or any time cole slaw. Love the idea of the sweet/sour dressing. Have a great Labor Day.
