SAVANNAH GIRLS RETREAT

 

 

 

For the last 5 years, my three girls, granddaughter and myself  have gone on a retreat.

We enjoy a time of quiet and relaxing from all the duties of being parents and a grandparent. We

allow Morgan, my almost 14 year old granddaughter to come along, she's always been a quiet  and

mature child. Next year my other granddaughter Anna will be 11 and will go with us.  This year we

chose Savannah and Tybee Island as our getaway place.   We stayed on Tybee Island.  I'll give you a

tour of some of the things we did.

 

 

 

Here we parked on Bay Street and walked down the cobble steps to River Street. I love the moss covered trees that are all over Savannah.

 

 

As we walked along River Street the Georgia Queen Riverboat came by.  It is a tour boat. Even though I have been to Savannah many times and have family here I have never taken the tour on it, but would love to, maybe on our next trip.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Morgan took this of us as we were about to go into the River House Restaurant.  We had been walking and going in and out of stores for some time now and was getting hungry.

  It's a great place to eat!

 

 

 

 

 



 

 

After a great meal of  fresh seafood, we had to go into the River Street Sweets Candy store. There they were making Taffy.. Our eyes were on the Chocolate's insead of taffy!.

 

 

 

 

I love all the buildings and beautiful homes, we didn't tour the city this time..  A couple years ago when I was there with a friend, we took the trolley tour. Here is a couple pictures I took then.

 

 

These are the steps that go up to the Savannah Bed & Breakfast Inn where we stayed in 2010.

 

 

 





The Beeches were beautiful on Tybee Island where we stayed, right on the Atlantic Ocean. The birds

seemed to be having fun too, guess they were hoping for some crumbs from the beach goers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

When we booked our retreat we didn't know there would be a Pirate Fest going on.  We did go to it

and enjoyed the festivities!

The picture in the middle of the college is a basket used as a shade on the light hanging

from the ceiling of "The Crab Shack" where we ate Saturday night.I thought that was

neat and creative.

 

A man walking by saw us taking pictures and offered to take ours together so we

could all be in it.  That was so nice of him.

As our long weekend came to a close we talked about how much we loved spending

this time together...all the food we ate and how long it would take to get the extra pounds off

 and

how hard it was to say goodbye to a town and place we love. Back to reality and

and families until next year.

WHERE IS YOUR QUIET TIME AREA?

 

 

 

 

While taking a break from my housework this morning, I was thinking "Wonder where you would go for your quiet time to be alone and relax?"   Everyone needs that special place to be alone to think and refresh their minds.

 



 

 

 

 

At the foot of the bed in my guest room is a bench where I go every morning when I get up to read my Bible and devotional.  Many a prayer have been said here along with tears and praise's . If this bench could talk ....maybe it's a good thing it doesn't!

 

 

 

 

 

I love the teachings of Dr. Charles Stanley.  He's the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta. This is a devotional to start your day with.  It has helped to get me pass many trails.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Every year my granddaughter, Morgan, gives me a bookmark for Grandparents Day.  This is the one she gave me with my card this year.  She is so thoughtful. I love and use them all.

 

 

 

 

 

This morning I had Country Peach Passion Tea , along with Club Crackers. I love those little

crackers.  I also love how my teacup and saucer matches the box  it's sitting on and my box of napkins. I bought them all at different times..

Loving Fall !

 

 

Fall is in the air and I am enjoying it!  The temperature is down in the high 70's to low 80's. It's been raining here and this makes it even more fall like.  I remember last fall and I do believe this year is even better!

 

 

 

 

I love the trees when they put on their " new dresses".  Such pretty colours, orange,red and yellow.

 

 

 

 

I took this picture at Fork Yargo State Park when we stayed there last fall. We have plans this month to camp.  Hope the leaves will be in full colour in a couple weeks.

 

 

 

Inside I have put out a little fall decor but not much yet. when we were out shopping last week, I did find a couple fall items at the Goodwill Store.  I do love my fall cup and enjoy having tea in it.

 

 

 

 

 

These two small plates I found at another thrift store for only 49 cent each, they go great with the cup that was only 50 cent.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I found this Nectarine white tea soap at Marshall's.  I love the smell!  It says on the wrapper it's a luxurious vegetable soap enriched with Shea butter, cocoa butter, nectarine oil & white tea extracts.  Well the "white tea" sold me.  It smells so good!  I really can't tell you enough how "Great" it smells.

 

 

 

 

 

Later after we had returned home my hubby said he needed to run to the store for A/C filters, well he returned with these flowers for me, isn't he so thoughtful!

I opened the pretty package and there were beautiful fall note cards, potholders and a Fall door hanger!

 

 

 

The items were wrapped in this paper and ribbon, I love the bow!

GOODWILL CUP FIND

 

 

 

I love the hunt for a good "deal" don't you.  Goodwill Stores and Salvation Army Stores are two of my favorites to shop.  Yesterday my hubby had an appointment in a nearby town, early.  Since his appointment was at 9 a.m. we got up early and headed off.

 

 

 

Yes, this early!.  It was an hours drive and the sun was in our face  half the way. I always love to see the sunrise or sunset, it reminds me how blessed I am to have another day to enjoy God's wonderful creations.  It was my daughter's birthday also and she was meeting us for lunch after the appointment. 

 I had a surprise for her too, a friend she grew up with and haven't seen in sometime, was going to meet us and surprise her. I got a surprise also, her mother that I went to  school with came along also. We had not  seen each other but one time in 18 years.

 

Well to get back to my hunt, we had a little time before the ladies were to meet us for lunch, so we went into the Goodwill Store that was near the restaurant.  I found this cup, it didn't have a saucer with it but for only $1.00 I had to get it.  I love the flowers and the shape of the handle.  It only had "made in England" on the bottom.

 

 

Also I saw this kitchen curtain with valance and admired it, but put it back since it's springy.  My wonderful daughter saw me looking at it and you know what that dear child did?  She bought it for me. It was only $3.00  I thanked her and decided I could put it away until spring, when I'd need something to

brighten my day after the winter months.  I love the butterflies on it and they aren't  imprinted into the material but sewed in so the wings can be lifted up.

 

 

 

This morning I used my new cup for my Twinning English Tea with scones and homemade preserves made locally by Betty Hatchet.  The saucer is one I already had and I think it is close enough to go with the cup.  Maybe one day I can find the saucer that goes with it. Oh, another hunt!! for another day.

COVERED BRIDGE PICNIC

 

 

 

 

This morning I decided to have a "Tea" Picnic at the covered bridge a few miles from where I live.  We are blessed with having the Auchumpkee Covered Bridge  in our county. 

 

 

 

 

I got up early and made cranberry scones and a pumpkin roll.  Loaded everything I would need in the SUV, called my daughter to see if she wanted to meet me and her daddy for a picnic.  I hurried to town to get a hair cut then back home to finish and make sure I had everything.  I asked my hubby if he was ready and bless his heart he got from his comfortable chair where he was watching TV and came outside, before getting into the car he ask "Ah, where are we going?"  I was so excited I had forgotten to tell him my plans.  He was willing to go along anyway.

 

 

 

I packed my "Traveling Tea Basket" (that's what I call it).  till it wouldn't hold anymore, then off

we were for a few hours of fellowship and relaxing.  I find the older I get the more I treasure every

moment with my family.  I'm always trying to come up with things we can do.. I love  "making memories"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We had Chicken Salad Croissants, Cranberry Scones with Strawberry Jam. For dessert we had the pumpkin roll I had made earlier this morning.  I did bring a plate for it but there just wasn't enough

room on the table so I just placed it on a doilie.

 

 

 

 

Sat my scarecrow in the chair with the magazines for us to look at. They are full of fall ideas!

 

 

 

My daughter,Gina loves to look at magazines also, guess she gets it from her mother.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We were getting hungry by now.  I think she's eyeing the croissant.  I picked

them up at our local delli on our way , they sure pack the salad on them.
